Peter Newark American Pictures

For all things American, Peter Newark American Pictures is an unparalleled collection of nearly 4,000 images of people, historical events and cultural iconography. Peter Newark is a great resource for early car and train travel. For vintage advertisements and nostalgia, take a closer look at DaTo Images and The Advertising Archives. American artists such as Winslow Homer and Edward Hopper painted atmospheric coastal landscapes and town life. Contemporary artist, Max Ferguson, paints photo realistic depictions of Coney Island’s retro-fabulous decay while Sarah Butterfield paints colorful images of the beach. If you are interested more generally in leisure and American life, historical societies such as New-York and Southern Florida offer visual stories of how we used to live.
