The Detroit Institute of Arts is the 6th largest fine arts museum in the United States with holdings of more than 60,000 works. Open since 1855, the DIA is currently celebrating a major renovation six years in the making. The DIA collection spans from prehistory to the 21st century. Among notable works in the collection are Diego Rivera's Detroit Industry fresco cycle and Vincent van Gogh’s Self-Portrait. This portrait (right) is said to be the first Van Gogh to enter a U.S. collection. The DIA's portrait collection in particular, is impressive and includes works from artists such as Sargent, Picasso, Whistler, Cezanne and Gaugin.
In addition to outstanding American and European art, the DIA holds significant African, Asian, Native American, Islamic and Ancient works. Bridgeman is pleased to be the primary licensor of DIA material for reproduction. There are more than 400 images currently available online with new images being added weekly. These images span the entire collection of the DIA, from antiquity to modern art.
