As ever, trends play a massive part in the art licensing cog, enabling retailers and buyers, out for a slice of the next big thing, to see that licensed artwork can tick all their boxes and provide the mass market appeal they are look for. Editor Rachel Redhead spoke with Bridgeman Art Library for their take on trends for 2012.
With the London Olympics and the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, 2012 will undoubtedly be a year of nostalgic celebration of quintessential Britishness. Other trends highlighted include stylised sporting images and Charles Dickens.
1920s Decadence, Glamour & Escapism
A beautiful art deco fashion illustration from the Bridgeman archive was chosen for the cover as the roaring twenties will surely be the decade de rigueur with Downton Abbey returning for a third series, set in the 1920s, as well as the hotly anticipated film version of The Great Gatsby.
Copies of Art Buyer Magazine have been distributed to thousands of image buyers and will be available free in the Greetings & Stationery zone at the Spring Fair. 5-9 Feb.
