Bridgeman is delighted to announce its partnership with the Civil War Archive. In advance of the upcoming 150th anniversary of the start of the war in 2011, the Civil War Archive introduces new pieces to our extensive collection of images of the war and 19th century American history.

Featuring era flags, Union and Confederate uniforms, tools and weaponry, and portraiture, the archive is especially representative of the Confederate states, contributing to a diverse depiction of a tumultuous time in America's history.

Highlights include a painting of a war-torn Southern home in Fredericksburg, Virginia (pictured below) as well as the fezzes (felt hats) of American soldiers who favoured the colorful uniforms of North African Zouaves.  Also featured in the Archive is a rare frontal photograph of  Belle Boyd (Isabella Marie Boyd), a Confederate spy noted for her attractive ankles who charmed Union soldiers into spilling secret military plans.

All of the images require no additional copyright clearance and are available for immediate downloading. Imagery from the Civil War Archive adds to an extensive selection of cultural and educational content within the Bridgeman archive suitable for licensing for a wide range of purposes, from publishing to product and packaging.

If you are working on a project relating to the American Civil War and are unable to find an image, our researchers are happy to source it for you.
